The urban and rural residents enjoyed another rise in income.According to the sampling survey, the disposable income per capita for the urban households was 12,898 yuan in 2003, up by 9.5% over the previous year and the living expenditure per capita was 9,950 yuan, up by 8%. The net income per capita for the rural households was 5,740 yuan, up by 9.5% over the previous year and the living expenditure per capita was 4,578 yuan, up by 15.7%. The rise in income of the urban and rural residents was 1.4 percentage points and 2.4 percentage points over the previous year. The residents savings continued to increase. By the end of the year, the balances of urban and rural residents’ savings in RMB and foreign exchange totaled 158,996 billion yuan, up by 20% over the previous year. By the end of the year ,the actually used floorage per capita for the urban households was 17.2 square meters and that for the rural households 54.7 square meters.
